CAN YOU LOVE THOSE WHO OPPRESS AND USE YOU?
The Scriptures tell us to overcome
evil with good.
Suppose you have a boss that is
continually "on your case" about something. You are doing the best job you know
how to do and are Christian in your dealings with the boss and all your coworkers. You are
very tense about the situation, because if you lost your job; you would have a financial
loss and a loss of self-esteem.
As Christians we are to do good to
those that oppress and use us. We are to "turn the other cheek". Violence and
anger is not the solution to any problem.
Doing good has an infinite and
eternal effect. Drop a pebble into a stream. The initial drop is small but the ripples
become wider and wider. They extend out forever and ever. The same goes for good deeds.
One good deed can have an infinite and eternal effect on others, spiritually speaking.
Remember, doing the good deed must
start with you!
When you do good to those who
oppress and use you; then you are able to love them. God loves everyone. You are part
of God; and must love everyone too.
Matthew 5:44-45 - But I say to you,
love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. If you do this, you will be true children
of your Father in Heaven. He causes the sun to rise on the good people and on evil people,
and he sends rain to those who do right and to those who do wrong.
Prayer: Dear Father: Help me see
far beyond the present circumstances and be concerned for the souls of others. Amen
